Paul, Naomi & Hannah we have just listened to the service on line & want to send you our condolences. We have never met, though we do know Dot & Phil. We are in the same generation & send condolences to them too. We want you to know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers. Ps 61 v 2 says, “When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the Rock that is higher than I.”
Heaven has gained a generous, kind, thoughtful, loving and beautiful soul in Jenny. I am blessed to have known and counted you as a dear friend during our time in Ipswich. The laughs, the many chats and the fond reminders of the unconditional love you had for others. You are at peace now as you rest in the Lord, dear Jenny. Underneath you are in the everlasting arms of the Father. Paul, Naomi and Hannah, we are praying for you all during this very difficult time.
Thinking of you today as you will say a final goodbye untill you meet again on the new earth. I pray that the waiting won´t feel to long or be to much of a burden for you to carry.
Jenny was a saint, and I can say that with absolute certainty because she put up with having me as a best friend for the majority of primary school without complaint.
Jenny, Melissa and I were pretty much inseparable from about grade 3 until we went to different high schools after grade 7. The three of us spent lunch times at Bundaberg West State School writing stories together, or rehearsing plays that I’d written. She brought elastics to school when that craze was in its heyday and taught me how to play. We all learnt violin and joined the orchestra. We were always at the top of the class.
That doesn’t mean we didn’t do dumb things. I’ll never forget the time we got in trouble in a t-ball match. My mum was the coach and for some reason, the game was stopped for a conversation between some adults, including her. It seemed like an eternity, but was probably only a couple of minutes. I’m not sure whose idea it was, but as we were both in the outfield and bored because of the stopped game, we started to throw and catch a pretend ball, getting progressively more dramatic with diving and rolling on the ground worthy of a Classic Catch replay on channel 9. Unbeknownst to us, the game had restarted. The first we knew of it was when the real ball came whizzing past us. Cue Jenny’s look of horror and then an almighty bolt to chase down the ball. I’m pretty sure our distraction caused the opposition to get a home run and us to get a talking to from my mother.
Jenny was kind, loyal and always wanted to help. She agreed to every crazy scheme I came up with. I don’t remember how many ridiculous roles I cast her in, but she always played them with good humour and commitment. In year 8, even though we were at different high schools, we ended up at the same place on excursion. I unexpectedly got my period and was with a male teacher, so you could imagine my discomfort. Because Jenny was there, I sought out her help. She was able to acquire a pad for me from her teacher and all was well. She was calm in a crisis and always reliable.
Jenny forgave me after every argument, even though I’m pretty sure in hindsight that I caused them all. She was far more patient and forgiving than I ever deserved: a saint in a school uniform. She was an excellent friend and set the standard that I have measured all of my friends against.
I have so many fond memories of Jenny from both primary and secondary school days. We were never close friends, but she was genuine, intelligent and driven. She knew her own mind and never apoligised for being who she was. Reconnecting many years later with her and meeting Paul, the connection between them was obvious and the willing to serve just as much. But for me the thing I hold on to more than anything else – I know that one day we will meet again. As the gospel proclaims, there are many rooms in our Father’s house and Jesus has prepared a room for all of us. Until then Jenny, may your family be comforted in the days ahead by the many happy memories of you with them and may you now rest easy in the arms of the Lord.
A beautiful service for a beautiful person. A fitting tribute and celebration of that “dash” between the dates of what Jenny did with her life. My time of knowing Jenny in Cambodia is fondly remembered. Her willingness to offer support and care. Being invited to eat with family. Going to choir together.
Yes Paul, A gorgeous woman.
I am deeply sorry for your loss and know she will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with all the family. May you know God’s peace at this time and always and, Paul, that Jenny remains your calming influence from on high where she is in God’s presence, surrounded by angels.
Jenny has left a great hole in our lives. But she has also left a beautiful legacy of blessing, kindness and love. My love and prayers to you, her family, who she loved so dearly. Jen will be greatly missed.
Rest In Peace Jenny. Sending lots of love to your family. Jenny was a beautiful kind caring woman and i was blessed to of met her.
